Active listening

We hadn't seen each other for years. He – a confrere – was approaching 90 years of age. We met again at a conference. We were delighted to see each other again. One evening, we sat down together. He asked about navi4life, the programme we use to support young people on their way. Step by step, he followed along and asked: ‘And how do you get into the schools? And how do you convince the teaching staff? What do you do with the young people? How do they react?’ I was amazed by his inner vitality and lively interest. I told him about our work in hot-spot schools. When we said goodbye at the end of the congress, he smiled at me and said, ‘Your work in the hot spots of our time is particularly close to my heart. I will pray and live for it!’
