Back to Gandma

After a tiring day, I was just about to lock up the church. As I was saying goodbye to the last visitors, two teenagers suddenly appeared in front of me with a bag of kebabs. “Can we come in too?” asked the older one. “Of course, once we’ve finished eating,” he added. The motto for the day came to mind: “How can I give of myself today?” So I agreed: “Of course, you’ll both get a special guided tour!” – “Cool, we’re visiting our granny here, and it’s so boring. So we thought we’d just have a look around. And then we got interested in this big church!” They smiled at me and came into the church with me. They were fascinated by the size of the space. Deeply moved, they stood before me. I began to tell them about myself and could sense that I was connecting with them on their level. When I mentioned the words ‘priest’ and ‘Mass’, one of them asked me: ‘What, do you hold auction sales here?’ It immediately dawned on me that they had little experience of church life, but many questions in their hearts, which I answered with details about the building. It turned into a fascinating hour that we spent together in the church. As I said goodbye to the pair of them, the older one said: “Wow, that was so cool. I’ve never been in a church before. And the way you explained everything to us so well was absolutely fascinating, so: THANK YOU!” Then they went back to their grandma.
