Several months ago, I buried an elderly woman whom I had known for many years and admired for her various social commitments. During the condolence conversation on Zoom, relatives of the deceased shared their different experiences and perspectives. I tried to give each person space to express his or her thoughts and feelings. The requiem and the following funeral were a lively gathering, allowing everyone present to find space for themselves and their feelings. Now I have received a parcel from this family containing hand-knitted socks and a lovingly written card, which read: ‘Thank you for the extraordinary funeral service. Love remains!’ Enclosed were the hiking socks with the words: ‘I knitted a lot of good thoughts into them!’
