For several month together with a family of friends we have been accompanying three young Afghan women on their often difficult path into a new life. They live very secluded and had to cope with great fears. In Germany they experienced that people they had trusted wanted to take advantage of their emergency. Their openness to our culture and their decision to lead a self determined life led to the fact that some people of the same origin excluded them from their community. At the second Christmas Day we visited them, brought gifts and spent a peaceful afternoon with them. Our friend, who was also born in Afghanistan, helped with the translation and the three woman could already diffidently use their new acquired knowledge of the German language. During the afternoon the atmosphere became more and more relaxed and their eyes were shining. In the evening we received a message from them: “It means a lot to us that we are not alone. We don’t really know anyone else here. We are happy that you all are there for us. Thank you for everything!” The trust of these woman after their bad experiences was a valuable gift for us. Jesus had given his peace to all of us in these moments. We look forward to continue our path together with them in future.
