Tensions had arisen in a small working group. Roles had not been clarified, and so the principle that the strongest prevails had taken hold. A meeting was scheduled to clear up many issues. Late in the evening, I set off to speak to one of the staff members and find out the results. In his heart, I did not sense any peace – despite his understanding of the situation. He seemed to want to distance himself. I listened to him patiently, asked questions and reflected back his own distress. As we said goodbye, he told me: “Thank you for coming at such a late hour and for taking so much time. Our conversation has really encouraged me to address the outstanding issues and everything that remains unclear with determination and clarity.”
